Healthy Care
Healthy Care is a national programme developed by the National Children's Bureau (NCB) and funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families, which aims to promote a healthy care environment where looked-after children and young people:
- Experience a genuinely caring, supportive, stable and secure relationship
with at least one committed, trained, experienced and supported carer
- Live in an environment that promotes health and wellbeing within the wider
community
- Have opportunities to develop personal and social skills to care for their
health and wellbeing now and in the future
- Receive effective healthcare, assessment, treatment and support
It provides a multi-agency framework for local partnerships to achieve the five outcomes for children set out in Every Child Matters.
What does the Healthy Care programme do?
It provides a national standard that reflects best operational practice and offers a set of tools and resources for local organisations to:
- Audit local services
- Develop action plans
- Involve children, young people and their carers
- Evidence progress and provide information for inspection
- Develop training programmes for carers
- Strengthen national and regional support networks
